中国领先的白酒制造商贵州茅台和国内咖啡连锁店瑞幸咖啡周一推出的新白酒口味拿铁取得了重大成功,该产品在北京很快售罄。

China’s leading liquor manufacturer, Kweichow Moutai, and the domestic coffee chain, Luckin Coffee, have scored a major success with the launch of a new baijiu-flavored latte on Monday, which quickly sold out in Beijing.

This latte, adorned with the iconic Moutai label, contains less than 0.5 percent alcohol by volume of 53-degree Moutai. It swiftly became a hot topic on Chinese social media, piquing people’s curiosity about how traditional Chinese liquor would blend with coffee.

在北京,茅台口味的拿铁在中午之前在一些瑞幸咖啡门店就被抢购一空,导致多家分店因需求激增而暂时关闭了在线订餐系统。

In Beijing, the Moutai-flavored latte sold out in some Luckin Coffee outlets before noon, prompting several branches to temporarily close their online ordering systems due to the surge in demand.

朝阳区惠新东桥附近的瑞幸咖啡店员工反映,周一上午的大部分订单都是茅台口味的拿铁。

Employees at the Luckin Coffee branch near Huixindong Bridge in Chaoyang district reported that the majority of Monday morning orders were for the Moutai-flavored latte.

一位姓张的咖啡师说道:“看来大家更喜欢冰拿铁,所以我们店里的冰块很快就用完了,订单量惊人。” 下午1点30分左右,她无奈只能关闭了网上订餐系统,因为还有200多个订单待处理,几乎都是茅台口味的拿铁。

A barista named Zhang remarked, “It seems that people prefer iced lattes, so we quickly ran out of ice in the branch. The volume of orders is astonishing.” She had no option but to halt the online ordering system around 1:30 pm, as there were over 200 pending orders, nearly all for the Moutai-flavored latte.

People have been sharing their reactions on social media after trying the latte, with most agreeing that the baijiu aroma is quite potent. Some even mentioned feeling lightheaded after consuming the coffee due to its alcohol content.

Questions arose about whether it was safe to drive after drinking the latte. In response, Luckin Coffee advised against ordering the drink for underage individuals, pregnant women, drivers, and those with alcohol allergies.On Monday, an official from the Beijing Traffic Administration Bureau urged people not to drive, regardless of the actual alcohol content in the latte.

In recent years, Moutai has been actively seeking ways to become more accessible and attract a younger user base, according to Zhu Danpeng, a food and beverage analyst. By partnering with Luckin Coffee, which has overtaken Starbucks as China’s largest coffee chain operator, Moutai has rejuvenated its brand and created more opportunities to expand its product range for younger consumers in the future.

Moutai has recently launched stylish marketing campaigns in its efforts to engage younger customers, including introducing Moutai ice cream and other culturally creative products.
