History
Northeastern University (NEU) was founded in 1923.

Campus

NEU is located in Shenyang, the central city of Northeastern China and the capital of Liaoning Province. The facilities and support available at NEU are wide ranging. NEU has over 30 teaching and experimental buildings, including classrooms of over 30,000 seats in total. The school library holds 3.61 million volumes in Chinese, English, Russian, Japanese, German, French, and Korean, 135 foreign periodicals and 1729 Chinese newspapers and periodicals. It has over 160 database platforms such as SCI, IEL, Elsevier, Ei Village, Springer Link and CNKI. Besides, NEU provides the first-class service and facilities, student catering, supermarket and kiosks, baths, logistics and other life supporting facilities. Student life in and around NEU is also vibrant, with a number of festivals, clubs, sports and performances.
NEU also has a campus in Qinhuangdao City, Hebei Province. Northeastern University at Qinhuangdao (NEUQ), a component of NEU, is a regular institute of higher education officially approved by the Ministry of Education. NEUQ endeavors to cultivate high quality talents of bachelor’s degrees, master’s degrees and doctoral degrees. With distinguished professors, diversified disciplines and courses, first-class facilities, garden-like campus, safe and comfortable accommodations, and abundant choices of food, overseas students enjoy a wonderful life in NEUQ.

Academics
Affiliated to the Ministry of Education of China and designated as one of the national key universities, NEU has formed its unique spirit: “Striving constantly for improvement and behaving in conformity with truth”. In 2017, NEU was among the schools of “Double First-Class University Plan”.
NEU has formed a multi-disciplinary system which covers philosophy, economics, law, pedagogy, literature, science, engineering, management, art and other disciplines, with 68 undergraduate programs, 189 postgraduate programs and 109 doctoral programs. Approximately 4,470 faculty members, 2,741 researchers and instructors work in NEU. Over 48,000 students (including 30,059 undergraduate students, 13,212 master’s candidates, 4,176 doctoral candidates) attend NEU. It also receives over 1,500 international students from 99 countries and regions.

Research and Innovation
Focusing on engineering, NEU has an outstanding advantage in terms of technological innovation and research application. With more than 100 research institutes (including 3 national key laboratories, 4 national engineering research centers and 3 national engineering laboratories), it has gained a number of high-level scientific research achievements, such as the first analog computer, the first CT in China and the first piece of super steel. By establishing the first university science park in China, it has established a series of high-tech enterprises, such as Neusoft and NEUNN.

About School of International Education
School of International Education of Northeastern University is responsible for foreign student recruitment (including undergraduate students, master students and doctoral students), management, education and research of Chinese language. School of International Education has recruited foreign students since 1950s. There are over 40 faculty and administrative staff members. Over 4,000 students from more than 50 countries have been educated in our university for their degrees and cultural study. In recent years, with continuously enlarge number of foreign students and promotion of education level and quality, more and more foreign students have been recruited by our university. The proportion of degree students has also dramatically increased.
Through dozens of years’ development, School of International Education has accumulated rich experience in teaching content, method and management. It boasts a strong team of full time and part time faculty. It offers long-term and short-term Chinese language programs meeting the demands of different levels of students (elementary, intermediate and advanced level). The School enrolls students from both Spring and Fall semesters. The School has many advantages for its high level teaching quality, such as small size classes, diversified language courses (e.g. Chinese intensive reading, listening, grammar, writing, reading, conversation, visual and audio classes, news Chinese, news listening and reading, economic and trade Chinese, science and technology Chinese, etc.), abundant Chinese cultural courses (e.g. survey of China, Chinese folk art, Taijiquan, martial art, etc.), colorful cultural experiencing activities (e.g. visiting Chinese families, museums, social investigation, travel, etc.), independent teaching buildings, 3 well-equipped dormitories, and strong cultural atmosphere in the surrounding areas. In 2007, School set up a Sino-South Korea Cultural Exchange Center with Kyungnam University. Since the establishment of degree program of Chinese language in 2010, the School has started to enroll foreign students in this program in 2011. The School has very high passing rate of HSK 6-8 exams and won several awards in Chinese speech contests organized by Liaoning Province and the country.
Cultivating excellent Chinese talents and promoting the cultural exchanges between China and other countries all over the world is the goal of School of International Education.
