Nanjing offers an abundance of attractions to explore: the Nanjing Museum, Xuanwu Lake, Zhongshan Scenic Area, Jiming Temple and Zhenzhu River, Yanziji’s Guanyin Gate, Niushou mountain’s Buddha Palace, Sifang art area, Jiangxinzhou’s Monai Park, Librairie Avant-Garde Bookstore, Yihe Road… any one of these can easily outshine some so-called “internet famous” attractions. Known as the “Riverside scene” (Qing Ming He Shang Tu) of the Ming Dynasty, the “Nanjing Prosperity Map” (Nan Du Fan Hui Tu) depicts the bustling scene along the banks of the Qinhuai River during the Wanli reign of the late Ming period. In this scroll, Nanjing alone boasts 109 shop signs and banners, including Yonghe cloth shop, net towel emporium, old shoe and boot store, bows and armor accessories, supreme official belts, famous tea merchants, ancient and modern calligraphy and paintings, and bathhouses. There are silk merchants, Nanjing-style boot sellers, belt vendors-everything one could possibly need is available.
